Nifty by 50

“They did it for us. Let’s do it for them.”

Feb. 2005 Trustees established the Nifty by 50 Committee to begin the task of a three-year church renovation campaign. In the spring of 2007, First Presbyterian’s 50th Anniversary, the renovation began with a kick-off dinner to raise $845,000. As the third year of that campaign draws to a close, pledges and gifts for the renovation  will continue to be accepted.

Over the course of three years Nifty by 50 raised funds and completed renovation projects for the kitchen, bathrooms, classrooms, flooring, media centers, wiring, air conditioning, roof work and lighting. The Fireplace room received new carpeting and an emergency exit door. Concrete work was completed on the east side of the church as well as a slab for an outdoor freezer. Outside front doors were installed on the north and east sides of the church building.

What began with a very respected and Christian church member: “We have reaped the benefits of what others have sowed 50 years ago. We needed to plan for a new harvest of believers…Since this church was built 50 years ago we’ve basically had a free ride. There have been no major construction projects other than the roof in the 70s and the church organ in the late 90s. We need each member’s financial support to continue the legacy.

Nifty by 50’s goal was to provide giving opportunities to First Presbyterian through website information, estate planning resources, memorial gifts and other funding.

Capital projects still needing funding are the parking lot, bell tower, windows, Narthex wood refinishing, pew cushions, Fellowship Hall acoustics and lighting and a van. The strength of this church depends on our members, visitors and community.  It is our prayer that for the next 50 years your children, your grandchildren and those to come after will enjoy this wonderful church of fellowship with Christ as the foucs.
